Chanukah, Oy Chanukah

Chanukah is always a busy time for Jewish family gatherings, and this year was no exception. Here at PJ Library Western Mass we kicked it off with international star, and local favorite, Mister G and the release of his new PJ Library CD Seeds of Shalom. We followed that with a candle lighting in Springfield, a pajama party at local doughnut shop Glazed, a gathering at Storrs Library in Longmeadow, a Page to Stage Chanukah Puppet show at Holyoke Hummus Company, and stories and songs at the Circles for Jewish Living Chanukah party.

Our Neighborhood Captains marked the holiday with butternut squash latkes, a home-hosted Chanukah party with 18 menorahs, and a Thanksgivukkah dance party at Flywheel in Easthampton.

And, of course, our local partners had a whole host of their own programs going on as well. Every synagogue and school had a long list of gatherings to choose from.

It was a miraculous and exhausting week. And it was wonderful to, not only light candles at home, but do it as a community nearly every night. There is no better feeling than knowing you are a part of something greater than yourself. Every time we gathered together to bring a little more light into the darkness of winter and be reminded that miracles really can happen, my love for this Jewish community grew just a little bit more. I hope you felt it too.
